Surprise Baby Shower
It's still so weird to think that in 10 weeks we'll have a little baby girl in our arms! Sometimes I look in the mirror and am shocked by how big my belly is getting. In my mind I'm still a normal size and can see my feet. And it's crazy how quickly I gain weight every week (I literally gained 3 lbs in the past week!). But after waiting so long for a baby, we've been ultra-organised and prepared way earlier than we probably need to be.
The other weekend, I was showered with love and gifts, so we really do have everything ready for Baby now! Unbeknownst to me, my sister had coordinated with family and friends back in the US, as well as friends here in Luzern, to ensure Baby was celebrated with a traditional baby shower. She brought over lots of gifts from those overseas and my dear friends here planned a lovely afternoon with cupcakes, games and gifts.
Being so far from my family, it's often hard to celebrate together, so I was so touched by the effort everyone made - both near and far. As an expat, you really do rely on the support of others in the expat community, since we are all in the same boat - very far away from our families. I'm so, so thankful for all the wonderful friends here in Luzern and all the wonderful ones back in Wisconsin who still make me feel loved and not forgotten! Baby girl is so lucky to already have such a huge support system!
It's surprisingly difficult to buy pregnancy or baby-related stuff here - there is such a small selection and so expensive! I've actually ordered a lot of things (crib mattress/sheets, baby carrier, diapers, etc) from the UK Amazon and had everything shipped to Warren's brother's house. Even though Warren now has to drive 13 hours to retrieve everything, it's worth it to actually get the things I want. Now we just need Baby to arrive so we can utilize everything!
